Penetrationstestmetodik

Penetration Testing Methodology
Learning objectives: Understand the overall process a penetration test follows, from kickoff to final report.
Content:
- Introduction to established frameworks (e.g., PTES – Penetration Testing Execution Standard) that describe a penetration test in phases: reconnaissance, scanning, gaining access (exploitation), maintaining access, and reporting.
- Reconnaissance: the difference between passive collection (publicly available information, i.e., OSINT — e.g., a company's website, LinkedIn, WHOIS records) and active collection (direct interaction with the target system).
- Scanning: a conceptual explanation of what port scanning and service identification involve — mapping which services are exposed — without going into specific attack commands here.
- Access and reporting: the importance of documenting every finding with evidence, a severity rating (e.g., using CVSS), and concrete, prioritized recommendations for the client. A good report is often the most valuable outcome of a test.
Exercise: Create a simple report template with the headings: Executive Summary, Scope, Methodology, Findings (with severity ratings), and Recommendations.
